(1)Will Christmas Replace the Spring Festival?
Christmas arouses increasing attention year by year in China. Christmas cards become popular with students. People hold Christmas parties and exchange Christmas girts. A lot or TV and radio programs about Christmas are on. Meanwhile the Spring Festival is less appealing (有吸引力的)to youngsters. Thus some people wonder whether Christmas will replace the Spring Festival.
This worry is fairly unnecessary. Why ? One reason lies that Christmas only affects Christians, college students and joint-venture (合资企业)workers. Another reason is that Christmas is mostly celebrated in cities. Few people in countryside show extreme interest in this exotic(带有异国情调的) festival. By contrast, the Spring Festival is the most influential traditional festival in every family.
I think,it is natural that with increasing exchanges with the West,a lot of Western holidays have been gradually introduced into China. For us Chinese we should never neglect or even discard our own traditional festivals. For centuries Chinese have observed this traditional holiday to welcome the beginning of a new year. And we will treasure the Spring Festival forever.
(2)The Lunar New Year
The Lunar New Year is a great occasion to the Chinese people. It lasts about the first four days of the year, during which people do not work except for the workers on duty. Students do not go to school, and shops are closed.Several days before the new year, people begin to prepare. Farmers kill pigs, sheep, cocks and hens. City dwellers buy meat fish and vegetables. Houses are cleaned; coupletsare posted on the doors. Colourful lanterns are hung at the gate.
On the eve of the new year, each family has its members gatherd together and eats a family reunion dinner. After the meal they watch TV until the clock strickes twelve. Then every family sets off long strings of small firecrackers and other fire works to welcome the new year. On the first day of the new year, almost everyone is dressed in his or her best. When people meet on the way, they say to each other "Happy New Year". Friends and relatives pay new year calls and gives presents to each other. Children indulge themselves in games.
With the growing of the Internet, the biggest highlight of the Spring Festival is to grab red envelopes on line.
Wechat’s gaining popularity helped Tencent took a head start in the combat with Alibaba, the leader of the Internet payment.
What’s behind this was shrinking traditional customs: fireworks were no longer welcomed by the people. Instead, there needs a new custom to fill the blank. Grabbing red envelopes on line attracted thousands of people to join in by its fast, brand-new, and thrilling way to entertain. Sadly, what young people who traveled a long distance to go back home did during the Festival was not to communicate with the elders but to hold their cellphones all day long , just in order to grab red envelopes and get some money. In this case, we can say missing is better than seeing.
However, the custom of grabbing red envelopes which represents a good wish to the young has lost its real meaning. That is to say, what really matters is the relationship instead of the money.Essentially speaking, this phenomenon of grabbing red envelopes on line resulted from the heat love between money and the Internet. It’s the carnival of materialism, and nobody won except the Internet.
(3)The spring Festival
Dear Jhon :
The Spring Festival is the most important festival in China. It is on January 1st according to the Chinese lunar calendar(中国的农历). It’s China’s New Year’s Day. So usually a month before the festival people begin to buy food clothes and decorations(装饰) for houses.
About a week before the festival housewives are busy preparing the new year dinner. And they will do a lot of washing and cleaning in the houses. People who are far away on business are hurrying to return home for the new year’s family reunion(团聚).
On New Year Eve each family will gather tighter eating talking and watching TV for almost the whole night. And there will be some interesting programmes on TV. The children are the happiest of all because they can get presents from parents or grandparents.
On Lunar New Year’s Day after getting up people will eat dumplings. When they meet their neighbours or friends they’ll say: “Happy New Year!”
I am ready to spend with together my family on the Spring Festival I’am going to see my grandparents and friengs . I ’m going to Diseyland in HONGKONG with my parents I will revise lessinos do exercise every day help the old and children .Wellcom to China. Waiting for your e -mail.

Lingling
(4)Dear Mike,
How are you? I’m really glad that you are interested in traditional Chinese festivals. There are many traditional festivals in China, such as Spring Festival, Mid-Autumn Day and so on. I’d like to introduce the Spring Festival to you.
Spring Festival is the most important traditional holiday in China. It usually lasts for 15 days.Days before the festival, people clean their houses. They think cleaning sweeps any bad luck. They decorate their houses with paper cuts. On the eve of the festival, family members get together and have big meals. Thenthey watch the Spring Festival Gala on TV. At midnight, they set off fireworks to welcome the New Year. During the festival, kids get lucky money from old people. People visit their relatives and friends. They wish each a happy year and good luck. How happy we are.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Liu Wei
